The Oregon District was one of Dayton's earliest suburbs. It was platted in
1829, and its location adjacent to the canal made it a popular site for
businesses and residences. It received Historic District designation in 1975.
The district has brick streets and many lovingly restored homes, some going
back to the 1830s, and infill shows respect for the neighborhood's character.
A few properties are still waiting for someone to love them.

The dense tree canopy makes it difficult to photograph the houses in summer,
but provides color in autumn. I started my walk on 5th Street and sort of
zig-zagged back and forth through the neighborhood.
