A small group of forum participants, mostly from Urbanohio.com, met
on a cloudy Sunday afternoon in the trolley at Spaghetti Warehouse,
and then went on a walking tour of Dayton. I arrived downtown a little
early so I got out my camera and walked around, mostly in the Terra
Cotta district. After you look at the buildings, it shouldn't be hard to
figure out the origin of the name.

Dayton's (vacant) Arcade.

Dayton still has its trolley buses. They've been threatened a couple of times by the developers, who think fixed-route transit inhibits the
short-term profits from building sprawl, but each time the riders have risen to the system's defense. The trolley buses currently in use are
by Skoda, a Czech firm. Skoda builds most of the trolley buses for the many European cities that use them.

Check out all that two-wire trolleybus catenary! (That's the name for the overhead wiring)

City Hall.

Dayton Daily News.

Monument to flight.

Spaghetti Warehouse - I neglected to take pictures
inside. It's nicely done nostalgia, with lots of stained
glass and an actual streetcar body. That's where
we gathered.

The Historic Oregon District is magnificent. There are many houses dating to the 1850s.

Art house cinema.

Great Miami River - Dayton has an extensive recreational trail, with connections all the way to Xenia and Yellow Springs.

The design of this monument is derived from Kettering's
invention, the automobile starter. The four columns
represent auto starter Bendix drives, and the gear
at the top represents the flywheel ring gear.

Biltmore Towers.
